OUR VISION ~ The 21st Century Chinese Church

As the 21st century dawns, the Chinese church faces new challenges to stand faithful to God's truth revealed in Scripture, to call her people to worship the living God in Spirit and in truth, to be nurtured and mobilized for effective evangelism and 'salt and light' ministry throughout the world, and to impact culture for Christ amid pluralism and rapid change.

OUR CONVICTION

In view of the apostasy of many Christian churches and the drift of many evangelicals from the historic biblical faith articulated by the Protestant Reformers in the 16th Century, China Horizon reaffirms this biblical faith and urges the Chinese church to address these critical areas of concern:

interpretation of Scripture which compromises faith in its infallibility, inerrancy, and authority as God's inspired Word
accommodation to culture and religion in the contextualization process
erosion of sound doctrine, e.g. God's transcendence, the deity of Christ, de-emphasis of the propitiatory and subsitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ
syncretism of biblical faith with relativism, existentialism, Taoist and Confucianism ideas, and the like
methodology which emphasizes 'worldly wisdom' in marketing, technology, etc, while de-emphasizing biblical wisdom in the proclamation of God's Word through the church

EMERGING LEADERS ~ Our Special Concern:

China Horizon is specially concerned with Christians whom God has called for future leadership in the church, and who are at critical stages of development in life and ministry:

pre-seminary
in-seminary, and
post-seminary leaders

among:

PRC's (mainland Chinese) in the west,
American-born or American-raised young adults, and
mid- and late- career OBC Christians in search of kingdom ministry involvement

OUR MINISTRIES

China Horizon conducts the following ministries to address the critical ideas and doctrines today and mentor leaders for the Chinese church of the 21st century.

1. Produce books, tapes, videotapes, and online material to equip cross-cultural workers among the Chinese and future leaders in the Chinese church, in these crucial areas:

systematic theology
apologetics
history and theology  of the Chinese church
cultural dynamics in the Chinese church
evangelistic and mission strategy

2. Provide select PRC, ABC and OBC leaders in development with these critical services:

screening
support and counseling
small scale symposia
scholarships

Dr. Samuel Ling ~ President

Dr. Samuel Ling is a historian, theologian and missiologist devoted to exploring significant issues affecting the Chinese church and China ministries. Author of over 500 articles and several books, Sam Ling teaches missions at Covenant, Westminster and other seminaries, and is director of China Horizon and president of Horizon Ministries Canada. Since 1997, he and his wife have made Los Angeles their home.

Born in Hong Kong, Sam Ling stands in the 4th generation of full time Christian ministers. Sam Ling's doctoral dissertation dealt with the response of Chinese Protestant leaders to the Anti-Christian Movement in China in the 1920's. His writings have dealt with multiculturalism and the local-born Chinese in North America and Asia; theology and theological education in the overseas Chinese church; and issues in cross-cultural Christian service in China. Among the immigrant communities in North America, Sam Ling is known as the teacher and program host on the well-beloved programs "Practical English" and "American Citizenship," heard several times a day in five cities.
