CHINA HORIZON 1605 E. Elizabeth Pasadena, CA 91104 August 1999 Dear Friend of China Horizon: Summer is "dry season" in most Christian organizations. But in all circumstances, God's mercies and provision never change! He has provided through your recent gift. Thank you. Last month we prepared our four book manuscripts mostly in the typesetting stage. We are amazed how much work goes into the formatting of a book! Sometimes we work through six or more drafts just in typesetting! When we pick up a book now in the library or bookstore, we can appreciate the labors which have gone into each one! Please continue to remember Janet Chen, Art Hsu (editors), Desmond Ma (formatter) and myself as we press on with: * Lit-Sen Chang, What is Apologetics * Lit-Sen Chang, Asia's Religions * Stacey Bieler and Samuel Ling, eds., Chinese Intellectuals and the Gospel * The Chinese Way of Doing Things September is right around the corner! It will signal the beginning of my research project into "Mainland Chinese Intellectuals and Christian Theology." Please pray that I will concentrate on reading, reviewing and digesting the materials set before me. Thank God for good progress in the matching fund campaign which makes this project possible! I taught "Systematic Theology I" at Logos Evangelical Seminary, July 26-Aug. 6. This was the 7th and final course for the 1998-1999 academic year. The 32 students responded with great eagerness to receive what was taught, and (in some cases) determination to build a personal system of beliefs. With the onslaught of postmodernism, the Chinese church needs strong pulpits and Bible teachers! These pastors, deacons, elders, Sunday School teachers represent the "pillars" of the church. Praise God for every opportunity to influence them with God's Word! Our website, www.chinahorizon.org, has been dormant for some time. We thank God that Rev. Kenneth Goh has agreed to update it. We want China Horizon to be a depository of theological and apologetical material, useful for the mission-minded Christian, and also helpful for the non-Christian inquirer who seeks succinct, reasoned and easily accessible information on the content of Christianity. Truth is always in season! And there are many seeking it today. God is faithful and gracious. But our enemy Satan is working hard, seeking to destroy God's workers and their faith, their marriages, families, and ministries. We need your prayer that the Spirit may protect us. We do not wage war against flesh and blood! For Christ and Chinese minds, Samuel Ling President
