CHINA HORIZON 206 E. Las Tunas Dr., Ste. 2 San Gabriel, CA 91776 January 2000 Dear Friend of China Horizon: The key word for my ministry in the year 2000 is "focusing." Please pray for this. In 2000, I will be focusing on teaching "Christian mind" or theology seminars. Please pray that laypeople in the church will be challenged and encouraged with God's Word: * "Christian Mind Seminar" at Evangelical Formosan Church, Cerritos, California: 8 Friday evenings (February 4, 11, 25; March 3, 10, 24; April 7, 14) * "Introduction to Biblical Counseling," as part of my ministry at Chinese Bible Church (January 22, 29; February 12, 26; March 11, 25) * Seminars in Kuala Lumpur, Johore Bahru (Malaysia) and Singapore, June 26-July 7 Seminary teaching in 2000 will be focused around 8 weeks in Asia: * "Theological Issues in the Chinese Church", Malaysia Bible Seminary, June 26-30 * "Theological Issues in the Chinese Church" (for Doctor of Ministry students), Singapore Bible College, July 3-7 * Additional courses at Singapore Bible College, July 24-September 2 I completed my teaching assignments in 1999 at Logos Evangelical Seminary, Covenant Theological Seminary, The Reformed Institute, and China Evangelical Seminary-North America. I will continue my research project on "Mainland Chinese Intellectuals and Christian Theology." In early February I will have the privilege of hosting a prominent "Cultural Christian" to attend the National Prayer Breakfast. Please for graciousness and meaningful exchange. In 2000 I will participate in a project to convene a conference (early in 2001) for Chinese Christians in North America, on biblical authority and inerrancy. This is a critical issue which needs to be addressed by Chinese pastors and theological educators. Thank God for great unity of mind and heart among the organizers (the conference will be sponsored by CCCOWE-USA). There are weekly (almost daily) opportunities to encourage the younger generation of Christians (interested in theology and full time ministry), pastors and seminarians, in person or through e-mail. God put me in touch with critical leaders at critical moments in their lives. Praise the Lord for these wonderful doors of opportunity. Unless the Lord builds the house ... all our projects are in vain. Please pray that we stay sensitive to the Spirit's leading. For Christ and Chinese minds, Samuel Ling President
